PATH™ focuses on the joy of creating dazzling art - Not the obsession to "Get It Right!"
Most actors look at the audition as an intellectual, ego-based problem that needs solving. “There is a RIGHT way to do this thing and I must figure it out!” Or, flip-side of the same coin, they don’t want to get it wrong – “I don’t want to do anything too risky here – I must look natural! Can’t move my eyebrows too much or mess up the lines!” Yikes.
Art is not about “figuring it out” or “right” or “wrong” – it’s about transcending all that heady crap! Look, if you follow the directions, coloring in the picture of a tree in a child’s paint-by-numbers book, everyone will agree that it’s a tree, but no one will ever call it art! When I was a younger actor, my auditions were all paint-by-numbers – “I’m going to pretend to be a very angry detective – Do you see?! – Do you get it?!!”
The audition doesn’t want to be a game of charades! It wants to be a living, breathing, spontaneous creation that both you and the viewer can become joyously lost in. CREATE! CREATE! CREATE!
